Childproof Window Guard
|
Every year, over 4,000 children are injured in accidents involving windows.
Homeguard have designed their window safety barrier to conform to regulations and
standards related to child safety.
Homeguard have designed a barrier specifically to protect children under five from falling out of windows. The barrier is fitted internally across the front of a window or to the reveals and is very simple to fit. It is made from steel and finished with a high-quality, maintenance-free powder coating finish. British Standards The main reference point for standards is Part K2 of the Building Regulations 2000. These lay down specific requirements for safety barriers to prevent falling. Homeguard have designed their safety guard to follow the recommended solutions contained within these regulations. For enhanced safety and to prevent entrapment, the spacing between the bars was reduced to 65mm – the same as that used for stair gates. Furthermore, the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA) carried out a risk assessment and certified the safety barrier to be a ‘safe product’. They also classified the risk level as ‘trivial’ – the safest level. Fire Safety The safety barrier is fitted into windows and so the issue of using the window as a fire escape had to be addressed. In order to comply with the recommended standard set by the Fire Safety Committee, the safety barrier is fitted with child-resistant keyless locks so it can quickly and easily be removed in an emergency. The Homeguard barrier has been approved by Fire Safety Officers. Peace of Mind This is a new product and is the only one of its kind available in the UK. Research was conducted with relevant organisations such as the Department of Trade and Industry, RoSPA, and other professional bodies who specialise in child safety; and as a result Homeguard have designed a safety barrier that not only complies with present regulations, but also brings peace of mind. For adults, an open window brings fresh air- to a young child it brings temptation. You cannot always keep your windows closed- but now you can secure them. Technical Information The Homeguard Child Safety Window Barrier has been designed to comply with the guidance specified in Part K2 of the Building Regulations 2000, in conjunction with British Standard BS 6180: 1999. Consideration has also been taken into account of the requirements in Part B1 of the Building Regulations concerning fire safety- the barrier is removable and is fitted with keyless locks. These locks comply with British Standard BSEN 1930: 2000. As an added precaution, the spacing between the bars has been reduced in order to comply with that specified in British Standard BSEN 1930: 2000. Risk assessment was conducted by the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents to ensure that the barrier is suitable for the safety of children. The barrier has been tested by a UKAS-accredited laboratory who have confirmed that it complies with the provisions of British Standard BS 6399-1:1996. Confirmation has also been received from the Fire Safety Committee that this safety barrier complies with their standard recommendation. RoSPA have declared the safety barrier to be a safe product and classed the risk as ‘trivial’- their safest category. Essential Features Adjustable fixing arms on each corner for ease of installation
